Welcome to the premiere of the Open Air Summer Series! Tying into the rich tradition of German culture and heritage in Pennsylvania, this concert features music by both Germanic and Pennsylvanian composers. The night begins with Pennsylvania composer Nancy Galbraith’s lyrical journey, Midnight Stirring. Followed by the poetic Siegfried Idyll, German composer Wagner orchestrated the composition as symphonic birthday gift to his wife. Lost for 70 years, Gustav Mahler’s sentimental Blumine was composed while he was infatuated with a soprano singer. Franz Schubert enchanting Symphony No. 5 builds to harmonic dance-like melody.
